A series of oil paintings reflecting on home as a temporary condition. Set in a deteriorating apartment hidden behind one of Warsaw’s most prestigious streets, the works explore chosen family, displacement, depression, and the fragile architecture of belonging.

Mokotowska is a meditation on what “home” means when it is never entirely one’s own.

The series is rooted in a specific address — an apartment located at the back of Mokotowska Street in Warsaw’s Old Śródmieście. At the front of the street: polished façades, luxury boutiques, carefully curated prestige. Behind it: a worn interior, fragile walls, a space temporarily inhabited rather than possessed.

These paintings were created during a period of constant movement. Having changed apartments over a dozen times, the artist approaches home not as permanence, but as negotiation — something assembled temporarily out of proximity, objects, and people.

The works depict fragments of that shared interior: windows, chairs, façades, medicine blisters, architectural details. They are not portraits of rooms but traces of staying. Each object carries the quiet awareness that it might soon be packed, dismantled, left behind.

The series also carries the weight of depression. Medication appears not as confession but as fact — part of the domestic landscape, as ordinary as a window frame or a radiator. The emotional and the architectural mirror one another.

At its core, Mokotowska reflects on chosen family — a home shared with a partner and his daughter. In a space physically fragile and socially contradictory, intimacy became the only lasting structure.

Home, here, is neither romantic nor owned. It is provisional. It is held temporarily. It is borrowed — yet deeply lived in.
